Provide leadership at the enterprise level for the technical design of significant projects.

Essential Functions 

  • Areas of responsibility include App Architecture, Software Engineering, DevOps for Dispatch Preferred Future State (PFS) solutions 
  • Serve as an expert resource on major corporate initiatives and develop/recommend solutions to technical design problems 
  • Lead and/or assist in resolution of complex production problems 
  • Provide technical leadership, serve as a mentor to developers in less senior positions 
  • Use excellent collaboration and communications skills to build consensus and provide directional alignment to development teams 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise Java systems in cloud native environments, using modern tech stacks 
  • Ability to define and document the Application Architecture (AA) for applications defined in Solution Architecture outcomes and capabilities 
  • Domain knowledge of major IT systems at FedEx is desirable 
  • Ability to build AA designs that support Non-functional requirements (NFRs), including: observability, reliability, security, scalability, availability and maintainability 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Solid experience with Cloud Native environments, such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) , Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) 
  • Ability to develop Enterprise software using Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot 
  • Solid experience with microservice design/development patterns, including request/response and pub/sub service designs 
  • Strong AppDev knowledge of Oracle Database and JMS implementations 
  • Well versed in DevOps principles and practices: CI/CD pipelines, GitHub and Jenkins, system administration, configuration management, containers 
  • Fluent in Testing in Isolation (TII) best practices and tools 
  • Experience using monitoring/observability tools, including AppD, Splunk, Grafana to monitor and diagnose issues in production environments 
  • Ability to reverse-engineer existing codebases, and provide technical leadership to ensure applications and APIs are compliant with Reliability Engineering and Info Security best practices 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues and scenarios to senior leadership 
  • Provide technical leadership to scrum teams and Full Stack Developers at all levels, ensuring business value is mapped out accurately and completely in Agile features 
  • Ability to collaborate with solution and business architect teams to support timely delivery of business value to FedEx 
  • Effective as an influencer, change agent, and thought leader within the enterprise 

Domicile Information: This position is preferred be domiciled anywhere in  Collierville, TN or Pittsburgh PA.  

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field, and/or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

Requires five (5) years equivalent work experience in information technology or engineering environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Skilled at leading/assisting In the resolution of complex production problems.
