Be a Tar Heel!:The Economics Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a position as Teaching Assistant Professor to teach in our undergraduate program, with appointment beginning July 1, 2025. This is a nine-month position with the responsibility to teach six courses per academic year. Candidates without previous faculty experience will be considered for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal; experienced candidates may be considered for a five-year term. Duties will include undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and service. A successful candidate will be able to manage teaching responsibilities that include enrollments ranging from 25 to 400 students. We will consider applicants completing their graduate degrees as well as those with experience in academic and other research settings. To be hired as a Teaching Assistant Professor, a completed Ph.D. in Economics or a related field is required by July 1, 2025. An initial appointment of Instructor will be applied to a successful candidate who expects to complete the Ph.D. by July 1, 2026. Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The primary purpose of the Department of Economics is to provide excellent education, research, and service in the field. This goal breaks down into four important components: 1) to teach economics to undergraduates in a manner that will introduce them vigorously to its broad scope; 2) to offer scientific and professional training to graduate students to prepare them for teaching and research careers in the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and applied microeconomics (labor, health, education, and development) and industrial organization; 3) to carry out cutting-edge research in these areas to be published in professional journals; 4) to provide consulting and administrative support services to the department and the economics profession as well as to the university, local community, state, and nation.
