The Department of Medicine is looking for a Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs who will direct and oversees all administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division at the assigned facilities. The Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs operates with the goals of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposal, as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars. Further, the incumbent develops and implements policies and methods that further these goals.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies potential donors or sources of funding and plans outreach strategies.
  • Participates in the development of grants applications and proposals. Schedules and oversees planning for special events that publicize the organization and its programs to the community.
  • Trains, mentors, and supervises sponsored programs staff members, and prepares performance reports.
  • Negotiates contractual provisions with potential partners.
  • Develops and provides reports or documentation needed to secure and maintain funding and grants.
  • Ensures that grants and contracts adhere to organizational standards. Acts as department expert and primary point of contact on funding issues and disputes.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions
  • Oversees the large, complex, and highly diversified research portfolios, including proposal development and post-award management, totaling at least $5M annually
  • Oversees the submission of 40+ proposals annually from more than 20+ faculty and researchers and over 35+ sponsors, mainly federal and industry
  • Interacts with various federal, state, foundation, and industry sponsors
  • Manages 65+ active sponsored awards, involving clinical and non-clinical research, fellowship/training grants, conference grants, and service contracts; total anticipated funding across all project years is $22M
  • Manages complex awards including multi-PI, multi-site, and multi-project grants with several sub-accounts and monthly to quarterly deliverables
  • Tracks the effort for all 100+ research faculty and staff, identifies possibly gaps in funding, and monitors effort certifications as required
  • Prepares fiscal budget projections for research totaling at least $12M annually and meets regularly with division administrator and/or division chief

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
