Senior Manager, Engagement

Job Description:

The Senior Manager of Engagement is a new role driven by HITT's national growth and a commitment to putting the community and people at the front of our business every day. This role will focus on two key pillars of HITT's Corporate Responsibility Program: community contribution and workforce wellbeing. The Senior Manager will be responsible for two functions critical to the firm's success: community engagement and team member engagement.

HITT is developing a new state-of-the-art Headquarters located at the West Falls Church Metro station. The Senior Manager will play a crucial role in envisioning, designing, and strengthening our relationships and interactions with fellow businesses and the local community. Through exciting and engaging programming, they will ensure our headquarters is a dynamic space that contributes to the well-being of our team members and reflects our commitment to socially responsible corporate practices.

The Senior Manager will engage with both internal and external stakeholders, manage community relations, and execute philanthropic initiatives to enhance our company's social impact. This role will oversee HITT's internal Team Member Engagement team and will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to positively impact local communities where HITT does business through charitable events and volunteerism, philanthropic giving, and engagement activities. The Senior Manager will also oversee the execution of HITT's well-established DE+I plan.

The ideal candidate will have experiences that may include community impact and philanthropy, events management, DE+I, employee experience, marketing and public relations, or a combination there of. They will have experience planning and executing a wide range of community engagement, philanthropic, and charitable events. Their skills must include strategic planning, communication, event design, community relations, and budget management. They are a natural self-starter, well-connected in the metro Washington, DC community, and passionate about corporate responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Develop a comprehensive community impact strategy (at Headquarters and in 13 major markets) aligned with HITT's core values and business objectives. Identify key focus areas, initiatives, and measurable goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, subcontractors, nonprofits, community and trade organizations, other relevant stakeholders. Collaborate with these entities to identify opportunities for partnership and collective impact. Particularly related to the development of HITT's new HQ, develop and implement strategies to identify and engage with the county and community groups, neighboring businesses, charitable organizations, local schools, and other public institutions.
  • Community Relations & Advocacy: Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, articulating our mission, programs, and impacts to a variety of audiences. Act as the primary point of contact for community engagement activities. Proactively engage with community leaders, neighborhood associations, and residents to foster positive relationships, address concerns, and ensure that our work leaves each place better than we found it.
  • Philanthropic Initiatives: Manage and coordinate philanthropic efforts for the firm, including community investment programs and corporate giving initiatives, as well as The HITT Foundation, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Identify and maintain partnerships with deserving organizations and causes that align with our company's mission and values and evaluate the impact of our philanthropic contributions. Ensure HITT receives benefits such as Board of Director roles, brand awareness, and connections to key stakeholders.
  • Employee Volunteerism and Engagement: Lead the strategy of team member engagement and collaborate with internal teams to promote employee satisfaction through appreciation, recognition, and volunteerism. Develop, implement, and enhance current programs that encourage employee participation in engagement and community service activities.
  • Headquarters Programming: Assess and optimize the utilization of our headquarters' physical space to support community engagement and social impact. Establish use cases for areas in the building to maximize the space for programming such as hosting community events, workshops, or meetings with local organizations and residents. These events may include job fairs, career development workshops, educational seminars, or networking events that provide value to the local community and foster positive relationships.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE+I): Apply, promote, and execute HITT's DE+I principles and commitments to ensure a sense of belonging within our organization. Support HITT's employee resource groups (EGCs) and their missions, elevate mentorship programs for the diverse, and identify opportunities to increase representation by attracting and retaining minority team members. Design outreach programs tailored to the unique needs and interests of various community groups and establish regular communication channels with community leaders and representatives to ensure continued engagement.
  • Impact Assessment, Measurement, and Reporting: Establish metrics and reporting mechanisms to track the effectiveness and impact of community initiatives. Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, successes, and areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports and communicate the results to internal stakeholders, senior management, and external partners. Owns the creation of HITT's annual Corporate Responsibility Summary.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Requirements: Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines related to community engagement and corporate social responsibility. Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical obligations, including reporting requirements and transparency standards.
  • Industry Leadership: Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in community impact and corporate social responsibility. Actively participate in industry associations, conferences, and working groups to share knowledge, learn from others, and contribute to advancing community impact practices within the commercial construction sector.
  • Advance our Values: As a brand ambassador, exemplify our core values and represent HITT in the community. Collaborate with team members to elevate areas such as sustainability, research and development, and governance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, social sciences, community development, or public relations.
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, community engagement, corporate social responsibility, ESG, and/or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of community dynamics, social issues, business, philanthropy; exposure to AEC or commercial real estate is a plus.
  • Experience programming physical spaces to achieve community engagement, social impact, and brand awareness. Previous experience in developing and implementing headquarters programming initiatives or community space utilization projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement community impact strategies and programs, from ideation, to development, implementation, and reporting.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate initiatives within established timelines and budgets.
  • Experience managing philanthropic budgets in excess of $1M; experience managing corporate 501(c)(3) arms is a plus.
  • Experience working with internal teams to plan and execute experiences, events, and engagement activities, including creative, communications, marketing, HR, and business development.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfort with executive leadership and Boards.
