Summary of the Group

Dynamic Omics is part of the Centre of Genomics Research/Discovery Sciences within AstraZeneca, and works across all therapeutic areas (Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM), Respiratory and Immunology (RI), Vaccines and Immunotherapies and Neurosciences). The team delivers key data to projects across all phases of drug discovery and development, and we work with all modalities from small molecules to biologics. As a member of the growing Dynamic Omics department, you will be actively involved in analyzing preclinical and clinical samples using metabolomics and lipidomics workflows and sophisticated bioinformatics.

Accountabilities:

This role is laboratory-based and will require bio-specimen handling, preparation, and ability to operate and maintain mass spectrometers and ensure data is accurately acquired and analyzed. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced matrix environment under the supervision of senior staff members.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience or equivalent in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, metabolomics, or other relevant scientific field with 2+ years' experience.
  • Must have prior hands-on experience in metabolomics and LC-based mass spectrometry (RP and HILIC; ideally Thermo Tribrid platform, Agilent qTOF, 908 devices CZE; SPE and ion mobility is a plus).
  • Operate instruments, process samples, design experiments, analyze data, interpret experimental results, and summarize data for presentations and reports with accountability for accuracy.
  • Experience with an entire metabolomics pipeline (including sample preparation, QA/QC, LC and MS operation, data analysis) and able to conduct research independently of a SOP.
  • Excellent teammate with collaboration and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; demonstrates passion, motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Strong laboratory leadership skills - multi-tasking, time management, and organization.

Desirable Skills/Experience:
  • PhD in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, or metabolomics, or other relevant scientific field with 0+ years' experience
  • Experience in R data analysis is highly desired, including R shiny.
  • Experience working with/creating spectral libraries and/or implementing metabolite/lipid annotation methods.
  • Experience with network analysis and multi-omic data integration.
  • Experience with robotic automation, SPE, and high-throughput sample processing.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple fields to investigate drug candidates and disease mechanisms.
  • Familiar with Human Biological Sample standard processes - handing, compliance, and due diligence.
