Duties: We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individual that is excited about doing a combination of bench work and clinical-translational research involving patients. This individual should be interested in a career in science or medicine. The research specialist will be working closely with the Principal Investigator and other lab members on publication-generating projects. The research specialist will work with cutting-edge molecular techniques and immunology approaches to understand the autoimmune pathology in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. It is expected that the research specialist will develop a high level of independence, and be able to take a lead on projects. The research specialist will work in an environment that is team-oriented, where creativity, enthusiasm and dedicated effort are highly rewarded.
The Research Specialist A position will assist in the characterization of the immunologic phenotype of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Assist with the characterization of these samples using sophisticated methodologies that examine cells at a single cell level. Work cooperatively with laboratory members and collaborate with other groups (both laboratory and clinical) on campus. Responsible for general laboratory duties/responsibilities. Multi-tasking is important.
The Research Specialist B position will undertake the duties outlined for the Research Specialist A position, with the additional expectation that the candidate will develop novel solutions to research questions in addition to employing established methods. Moreover, it is expected that the Research Specialist B candidate will have a greater laboratory experience than the Research Specialist A candidate, such that s/he can make greater contributions to more complex questions, and is expected to perform more independently.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: Research Specialist A: BA/BS in Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Research Specialist B: BA/BS in Science and a minimum of 1-3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Both positions:
A basic understanding of immunology is required. Experience with general laboratory techniques is required. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with other people as a team are required. Excellent organizational and record keeping skills are necessary.
