Job Title:Research Farm Assistant ManagerDepartment:FAES | Research Operations Administration

55% Reporting to the Manager for CFAES Western Agricultural Research Station, assists with coordination of field operations supporting research programs conducted at the CFAES Western Agricultural Research Station. Receives investigator project requests and prioritizes/assigns field space for experiments. Assists manager to coordinate with research/extension faculty, staff, and students to establish and maintain crop science and swine research projects. Assists in planning daily work assignments and follows protocols to successfully accomplish research objectives. Participates in operations including plot layout, tillage, fertilizer and chemical pest control application; planting, weed control, harvesting and recording of yield data. Keeps detailed records of field operations. Monitors/scouts crops for pests or conditions that may impact research, reports observations and takes appropriate action.
25% Assists with supervision, hiring/training of student or temporary staff under supervisor's direction. Performs business functions, enters purchase requests and assists with procurement of supplies and equipment. Operates tractors, tillage equipment, sprayers, harvesters and other farm machinery. Assists with coordinating agricultural equipment, facilities, and grounds maintenance, including field drainage and irrigation. Assists with monitoring budget resources and time/effort records. Assists management team to ensure the unit's safe work environment, including equipment operation and pesticide use; communicates pesticide re-entry information to faculty and staff. Assists with supporting operations at other CFAES research stations, field labs or sites as directed by supervisor.
20% Assists with addressing stakeholder questions and facilitation of outreach events. Participates in local producer meetings and attends continuing education programs. Assists with training graduate and undergraduate students on
field research procedures. Responsible for field operations in supervisor's absence. Works flexible schedule as required by weather, soil, pest, and crop conditions. Performs other duties as assigned. Position is based at South Charleston, Ohio.

Education:
Minimum Education Required: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in agricultural program desired or equivalent experience.

Required Experience:

  • Four years minimum experience in agronomic crop production.
  • Knowledge of field research methods.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required.
  • Ability to obtain Ohio Public Operator pesticide
    license within 6 months of employment.
  • Drivers license. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical work for extended periods.
  • Skilled in use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, etc.) email, networking, etc.

Desired Experience:

  • Working knowledge of farm machinery operation and repairs.
  • Precision agriculture technology experience.
  • Experience with livestock (swine) production.
  • Supervisory experience.

This position is unable to sponsor work visa's.

This job profile is a Farm Coordinator 4 (T4 level) position on the career roadmap.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
