Description:
- 9 mo. academic year contract plus 3 mo. of summer - pay commensurate with 12 mo. assignment.
1:1 course instruction loadDesign and execute new laboratory curriculum ensuring experiments that meet safety standards of teaching laboratories.Participate in pedagogical discussions with the Director of General Chemistry and develop laboratory learning goals.Work with Campus organizations to make laboratories less costly for students, more sustainable and more energy efficient.Develop writing component of the General Chemistry laboratories to satisfy the General Education course writing component.
Develop laboratory syllabi and schedule for the lab component of general chemistry courses.
Coordinate Fall TA training with the Director of General Chemistry to prepare graduate students to teach laboratories in the general chemistry series.Work with Director of General Chemistry and Assistant Chair on assignment of TAs and oversight of General Chemistry TA performance and provide advice/solutions for problems.Manage budgets, keep track of equipment/instrument needs, and prepare requests for laboratory fee use.Organize supervision of laboratories and solve problems in laboratory procedures as they occur.Implement online options for lab preparation.
Develop, update, enforce, and revise lab safety policies.
In the case of laboratory accidents, work with laboratory instructors to determine whom to contact (fire and rescue, ambulance, Environmental Health & Safety, etc.).Work with Chemistry and College of Arts and Sciences staff as vital to hire temporary or new instructional stockroom staff.Work with the Accessibility and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) to meet the needs of students with course accommodations.Determine and oversee transportation of laboratory chemicals, experiment needs, and any other materials from the Stephenson Life Sciences Research Center to the Chemistry Building Annex, the Chemistry Building, and Gallogly Hall.

Qualifications:Ph.D in Chemistry or related field
