SCOPE OF POSITION
The OSU Department or Psychiatry & Behavioral Health and Harding Hospital provide the most comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults, older adults, and adolescents in central Ohio. All of our outpatient services include a comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis from a qualified clinician and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. We offer evidence-based services across diagnoses, with signature programs in Depression Recovery, Psychosis, Suicide Prevention/Trauma, Women's Behavioral Health, Addictions, and Neurocognitive Disorders. The Psychotherapist serves as a critical part of our clinical team; they are an independent provider who functions within the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team to provide psychotherapy. This position sits within our EPICENTER/Psychosis program, a multidisciplinary team providing state-of-the-art care to individuals with and at-risk for psychotic and related disorders.


POSITION SUMMARY
Clinical and education position, including, but not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for patients with mental health complaints.
  • Provide psychotherapy to individuals with mental & behavioral disorders to facilitate return to previous or improved functioning. Services provided include individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and/or couple/family therapy.
  • Formulate individualized treatment plans to assist patients to determine and meet treatment goals.
  • Other duties include advocating within local community if needed; work as part of clinical team; maintain third-party payer relationships; and complete all necessary paperwork (e.g., disability, FMLA).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Personalized Performance Plan (P3) Key Result Areas of Innovation & Strategic Growth, Quality & Safety, People, Productivity & Efficiency, and Service & Reputation are interwoven throughout the position description.
85%: Clinical Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to patients referred for treatment of depression and other mood disorders. This requires thorough knowledge of the DSM-5 and mental health diagnoses within the ICD-10.
  • Provide evidence-based psychotherapy to a caseload of clients with mental and behavioral disorders, and as needed, to clients with dual diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Maintain responsibility for developing a treatment plan in collaboration with the patient and with all providers involved in the patient's behavioral healthcare. Update the treatment plan as indicated by compliance officer and as patients' needs change.
  • Communicate with outpatient providers and referral sources about patient progress and status. Maintain positive contacts with referral sources. Be available for consultation/collaboration when needed.
  • Request and provide consultation and/or support as needed from supervisor and other members of the team.

10%: Clinical Administrative

  • Complete all clinical documentation in a timely, compliant, and clinically accurate manner.
  • Provide treatment reviews and updates as requested. Document utilization reviews in the chart and on-line so they are easily understood by team members and by the Business Office.
  • Complete and submit paperwork (e.g., FMLA certification, disability, insurance authorizations) on patients' behalf as necessary and appropriate.
  • Provide clients with links to community resources to help meet their needs.

5%: Other Duties

  • Demonstrate compassion and sensitivity to patients, families, visitors, and other staff. Is courteous to others and promotes mutual respect consistent with OSUWMC core values.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate cost-effective use of supplies and time; systematically organizes and prioritizes work.
  • Attend and contribute to program staff and treatment team meetings. Attend staff in-services and other meetings as required.
  • Work within the clinical team to support our programs maintain full accreditation (e.g., JCAHO).
  • May represent the program or hospital by participating in committees, conferences, and public meetings, and by providing educational presentations to groups.
  • May mentor interns or students from graduate programs.
  • Sets example of high professional standard by conduct and dress code.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Other duties assigned within scope of experience, expertise, and credentials.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling; Independent Ohio license to practice (i.e., LISW, LPCC) is required. A minimum of two years of experience working with patients with mental illness and/or substance use disorders is also required. Experience and/or training working with patients with or at-risk for psychotic disoders is required.

Ongoing: Maintain licensure(s), credentials, and CBLs. Practice within the parameters of the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board. Training in at least one evidence-based psychotherapy modality (e.g., cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal psychotherapy) will be required.

Patient Population Served
Knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatments necessary to meet the age-specific needs of the patient population served. ADULTS AGES 18+. ADOLESCENTS AGES 14+


In addition, knowledge of and comfort in working with clients and their families/support systems with diverse racial and cultural backgrounds who are experiencing severe emotional illness and are either at risk for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, or are transitioning back to the community from inpatient hospitalization

Job Relationships

  • Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise Master's level interns in graduate programs
  • Contacts: Patients, families of patients, Medical Center employees, referral sources, and third-party payers.
  • Responsible to: Director/Associate Director of Ambulatory Services

Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and meeting rooms (i.e. use of safe work practices, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signs). Employees are required to wear personal protective attire, according to hospital policies and OSHA guidelines. The work environment also involves risks associated with the use of computers. Such as, eyestrain & disorders that result from repetitive motions associated with computer use.
