Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.

Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Project Manager for a newly funded study led by Dr. Melissa Gilkey. The project is focused on engaging school community members to identify and address the primary reasons families file non-medical exemptions to kindergarten vaccine mandates, with a goal of reducing the number of these exemptions.

The Project Manager will work collaboratively with Dr. Gilkey, members of the research team, and members of participating school communities, including school nurses, families, and school-located research assistants. The Project Manager will serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning and timely implementation of research activities for the project and serve a critical role in the communication and coordination among internal and external study partners. This includes overseeing the day-to-day project operations and coordinating research activities such as managing the work of remotely located research assistants, developing protocols and data collection instruments, IRB applications, progress reports to funders, managing project budgets, project planning, and outreach activities to engage with schools, advisory boards, and other relevant stakeholders. This project will be conducted in multiple locations and occasional out-of-state travel may be necessary as part of this position.

The position has an estimated duration of two years, with the potential to extend depending on funding availability.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Able to independently manage multiple aspects of a research study.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills, with ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, maintain attention to detail, and ensure work is performed in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in using computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience planning and implementing public health research projects is preferred.
- Experience working with school-based health programs or research projects.
- Interest in vaccine improvement.
- Qualitative research experience.
