The Area Studies Centers at the Hamilton Lugar School (HLS) promote education, scholarship, and public outreach for different global regions. Area Centers include the African Studies Program, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Dhar India Studies Program, the East Asian Studies Center, the Institute for European Studies, and the Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies center. Our academic degree programs train specialists committed to strengthening global ties through careers in public service, business, research, and teaching. The Area Studies Centers are also committed to increasing knowledge and awareness of global studies on campus, in the local community, and beyond through outreach programming.
Job Summary
HLS Area Studies is hiring an hourly Digital Coordinator for the Windows to the World (W2W) project. Windows to the World is a K-12 online curriculum platform that brings digital facsimiles of IU museum items into the classroom, through a combination of digital renderings, written research, and curated teacher lesson plans. The Digital Coordinator will support website development and technical maintenance for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Website Maintenance
- Responsible for all updates and additions to the W2W archive and platform within the IU Website Content Management System (WCMS).
- Acts as the first point of contact to solve any potential platform issues.
- Responds to queries for support from platform users as needed.
New Application Development
- Works closely with the W2W team to create new platform features for W2W website, including structuring the back-end elements of new platform applications such as research tools, introduction to museums module, and other planned platform expansions.
User Support and Accessibility
- Responds to queries for support from platform users as needed.
- Works with both users and the museum sources to increase item accessibility, including alt text, link checking, and file format conversion.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required - High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
Preferred WORK EXPERIENCE
Perferred - Experience in item-based databases (libraries, archives, museums).
SKILLS
Required - Team oriented.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Ability to manage collaborative projects.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to use or learn various computer programs
Preferred - Familiarity with the IU Software suite, including the Web Content Managing Platform (WCMS).
Additional InformationSome evening and weekend availability will be required for certain events throughout the year.
