The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive experience in leadership and naval shock design, testing and analysis to lead our shock and survivability team. This team is responsible for ship survivability and shock qualification requirements for NNS built aircraft carriers and submarines. Additionally, this team is currently collaborating with Navy, Industry, and technical leaders on early concept design, modeling, analysis and assessments of shock performance for existing and future submarine platforms and systems, such as SSN(X).
The candidate will manage and develop engineering professionals, ex-Naval officers/service members and scientists in shock application, research, dynamic analysis, test and qualification to meet the shock and survivability requirements established for new and existing programs.
The candidate should have excellent communication skills. This position requires direct engagement, travel, communication and developing a trusted relationship with our key Navy customers, Technical Warrant holders, Naval Reactors, NNL, Electric Boat and Navy Warfare Centers. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD SECRET level clearance is also required.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Leadership experience, integrity, communication and active engagement with our customer base is essential for this position. The candidate should have significant and well-established leadership principals and an engineering technical background in shock, structural design, construction and/or research.
