Manufacturing Engineer - Advanced Planning
Mapleton, IL
Role Summary:
The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.
With over 800 employees at the foundry, we are looking for an Advanced Planning - Manufacturing Engineer who will provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated machines by following New Capital Investment process. As an Advanced Planning Manufacturing Engineer, you will be expected to function as a specialist with respect to the machining area of the foundry. You will develop, analyze and manage manufacturing/machining projects while assisting in developing department capital and expense budgets and maintain the capital forecast. This role is integral in bringing new ideas and technology to the machining department that will continuously improve the overall performance to meet or exceed customer expectations.
What you will do (includes but not limited to):
- Utilize the NCI and KPI updates for all new capital projects will be the key part of this position to run all machining projects assigned to completion.
- Contribute to launching new machining capital projects from concept to completion to improve Safety, Quality, Velocity, and Cost in order to meet Advanced Planning annual goals.
- Identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure requirements are clearly defined when proposing future projects along with how to make current processes more efficient.
- Develop scope of work and justifications to obtain approval, then work closely with vendors to implement project details.
- Coordinate the purchase and application of machine tools, automation controls, robotics, and related equipment corporate wide to ensure the latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations.
- Design complex or intricate jigs and fixtures.
- Utilize lean manufacturing to create balanced layouts and processing within each operation.
- Assist in developing training program with Operations/Manufacturing Engineering on the functionality and processes for all machining.
Education and Experience Requirement: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience desired.

Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
Lean Manufacturing: Working Knowledge:
Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Manufacturing Equipment: Working Knowledge:
Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
Manufacturing Safety: Extensive Experience:
Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
Problem Management Process - MFG: Extensive Experience:
Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.
Project Management: Basic Understanding:
Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Summary Pay Range: $95,640.00 - $143,520.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
