Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician I, General is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and basic repairs to buildings and equipment, to include basic plumbing for maintaining and repairing plumbing systems such as unclogging drains and lines, toilets, drinking fountains and sinks; routine electrical duties, such as installing light fixtures and outlets; assisting in basic painting of classrooms, offices, and other areas.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes maintenance and basic repairs on commercial buildings, facilities, and equipment. Maintains interior and exterior lighting to keep campus safe at night and classrooms well illuminated.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and makes timely repairs to plumbing, drywall, light electrical and ceiling tile issues . Reports and documents any safety or maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Supports Trades personnel and tasks they are assigned.
  • Responds to emergency breakdowns of utilities or special requests of faculty and/or students. Provides customer service to vendors, faculty, and students.
  • Operates a variety of motorized vehicles, handcarts, and hand and power tools to perform various duties repairing and installing equipment. Performs cleaning and upkeep on all vehicles and tools.
  • Assists with inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools; performs procurement activities as needed.
  • Participates in setup for campus events and provides assistance with third party vendors and contractors.
  • Performs data entry input of daily time sheets and posts completed job summaries in computerized maintenance management system.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Degree and
  • One year related maintenance and repair experience and
  • Valid Arizona driver license
or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

  • Knowledge of skilled trades expertise required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
  • Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Skill in groundskeeping and landscape maintenance
  • Skill in electrical maintenance
  • Skill in HVAC maintenance
  • Skill in plumbing maintenance
  • Skill in construction projects
  • Ability to adapt and maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations
  • Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
