Job Summary/Basic Function:
This role will work proactively with researchers across Boise State in the technology transfer and commercialization process with a primary focus on translating Boise State research in order to increase licensing and collaborative relationships with commercialization partners for the benefit of the university community and the citizens of Idaho.

This position is hybrid in Boise, ID with the expectation of working on campus 2-3 days per week.

Department Overview:
The Office of Technology Transfer supports research activities and manages industry relations and intellectual property commercialization for the university. The office is responsible for the assessment, protection, development, and marketing of new inventions for commercial use and facilitates the internal and external relationships that contribute to the process. The office also supports the advancement of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development programs and initiatives on campus. We are seeking a Licensing Associate to support the advancement of the Office of Technology Transfers goals and Boise State University's Blueprint for Success.
Level Scope:
Licensing Associate 1: Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Licensing Associate 2: Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
95% of Time the Position must:

• Evaluate invention disclosures, conduct prior art searches, patent landscape analysis, recommend patenting strategies, develop commercialization plans, and conduct market research on existing and disclosed technologies;
• Act as the primary liaison to university faculty/staff, and their research, in the technology transfer process and advise the same on the technology commercialization process;
• Manage patent filings, copyright and trademark registrations in collaboration with the inventors, authors, and outside counsel;
• Draft marketing collateral, develop and execute marketing strategies and plans that maximize the commercial and public benefit of the technology on behalf of the university;
• Actively market university technology to prospective licensees, directly and through web and third-party channels;
• Identify and evaluate potential licensees by assessing their commercialization plans, available resources, competencies, and commitment to the technology;
• Build and manage strong relationships with corporate partners, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists, acquire feedback on the commercial potential of Boise State technologies to further inform research and development plans and investment decisions;
• Assist with the drafting and negotiation of license terms, options, license agreements, collaborative agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and material transfer agreements;
• Advocate for and support the university innovation ecosystem through entrepreneurial program development, startup support, and bring internal and external awareness of OTT's activities.

5% Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
To be considered for the Licensing Associate 1 role a candidate should demonstrate:
• Working knowledge of intellectual property and contract law and industry-standard licenses including royalty rates and license structures.
• Experience relevant to evaluating the novelty of early-stage inventions and identifying commercial potential.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships with others
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to manage confidential information and the ability to convey technical concepts with various stakeholders
• Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization, business, and critical-thinking skills.

To be considered for the Licensing Associate 2 role a candidate should demonstrate:
• Two years in a similar role within industry, government, or higher education
• Strong working knowledge of intellectual property and contract law and industry-standard licenses including royalty rates and license structures.
• Experience directly relevant to evaluating the market potential of early-stage inventions and identifying commercial potential.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships with faculty/staff researchers and interact effectively and productively with industry.
• Experience in contract negotiations with the ability to secure market rate license terms.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to manage confidential information and the ability to convey technical concepts with various stakeholders, including faculty, students, legal professionals, and industry representatives.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization, business, and critical-thinking skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensing Associate 1: Intermediate Level Skills and Experience, including a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience in a corporate or university technology transfer and/or business development setting.

Licensing Associate 2: Senior Level Skills and Experience, including a Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience in a corporate, university, or government, technology transfer and/or business development setting.

Position requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status due to work involving federal export controls.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree and/or research experience in Engineering, life or physical sciences, or Materials Sciences. Licensing and technology marketing or related experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree preference. Salary and Benefits:

Salary range for Licensing Associate 1: $65,000-$73,632 annually for Licensing Associate 2: $86,486-$108,097 annually. Commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
