The Jewish Board's Community Behavioral Health treatment programs provide compassionate, high quality, evidence-based services to individuals and families in the communities we serve. Our staff use a culturally competent, person centered approach to help individuals and their families develop skills and resources to improve overall functioning, to instill hope, and to strengthen resiliency. Our programs work closely with community partners to address health disparities in our neighborhoods while also celebrating the strengths and resilience of our communities.

The Social Worker provides comprehensive intake assessments and treatment planning for clients entering the clinic with the goal of assessing their needs and linking them to the services at the site that best fit their needs and/or linking them to programs out in the community. The social worker will also carry a caseload of individual clients providing on-going therapy to a diverse population of children, adolescents, adults and their families.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide information and clarification about services and identify what service(s) are being sought.
  • Obtain demographic and clinical information regarding the client's relevant history and presenting concerns for the respective service
  • Provide a comprehensive assessment of client's needs including mental health and substance use disorders treatment, financial, housing, legal and medical needs
  • Conduct crisis evaluations
  • Prepare and maintain intake log
  • Make appropriate referrals for various levels of care both within the clinic and in the community as needed
  • Track and provide follow-up on current and pending applications and provide follow-up with clients who do not keep intake appointments
  • Assess for risk, create safety plans and prioritize cases deemed high risk for treatment. Risk includes suicide attempts/suicidal ideation or risk; symptoms of psychosis or delusions; suspicion of physical or sexual abuse; cases of domestic violence; etc.
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team including licensed practical nurse and psychiatric providers
  • Collaborate with partnering programs to insure smooth access and connection to services
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy to clients at the clinic of all ages
CORE COMPETENCIES for the position include:
  • Strong clinical direct practice skills and knowledge of evidenced based practices
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate well in a multi-disciplinary team

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:
  • New York State License or limited permit in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC); Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT), or social work (LMSW) required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
  • Knowledge and experience with evidence based approaches
  • Fluency in a second language is preferred.
  • Experience with documenting in electronic health records and using Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with telemental health platforms a plus

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED (List the computer skills needed):
  • Proficient with electronic health record; Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook); comfortable and proficient using audio video platforms (i.e., Zoom).
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
  • The candidate should be able to read paper and electronic documents and perform significant data entry into various computer programs
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT

• The work environment involves no physical risk or hazardous conditions.

• To perform the essential functions of this job, the candidate is routinely required to sit (90% of the time) and stand (10% of the time)

Qualifications:

The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented individuals of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:
  • NYS license in social work or clinical social work (LMSW or LCSW) or NYS license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
  • Bilingual Spanish-English a plus
  • Bilingual Russian-English a plus
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) a plus
