Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:Collects and organizes samples for testing, performs laboratory procedures, document and communicate findings.
- Collects case history, asks questions about animal history and management to individuals submitting animals for necropsy or samples for testing.
- Collect, log in, and verify using the appropriate workflow, all submitted samples to ensure that routing sheets and samples match and to ensure that the sample matrix is appropriate for the requested test.
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing receiving areas including after hours cooler.
- Strictly adhere to Quality Management guidelines.
- Recognizes, documents and provides input to correct substandard quality.
- Maintain client confidentiality for all information about testing and identity of animal owners.
- Reviews and evaluates processes as necessary.
- Participates in and ensures compliance with the quality management, biosafety, and biosecurity programs.
- Develop work schedules for section.
- Research and evaluates new equipment, tests and supplies for laboratory use.
- Performs periodic cost analyses and recommends fee adjustments.
- Perform special projects and diagnostic research.
- Recognize, document, and provide input to correct substandard quality.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Strict adherence to Quality Management System requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements:- Bachelor of Science degree related to the area of work to be performed.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
- One year of laboratory experience.
- Must be comfortable interacting with the general public, veterinarians and veterinary staff to facilitate sample receiving and the taking of clinical case history.
- Must successfully complete CDC Packaging and Shipping Division 6.2 training, as evidenced by passing grade on certifying exam.
- Ability to interact well with people; adapt to changing environments and situations.
- Pleasant, proactive personality with the ability to handle demanding situations, quickly adapt to address changing circumstances and personalities, and work as an individual or team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, supervisory, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
- Problem-solving ability to troubleshoot deficiencies, identify corrective actions, evaluate new processes and materials/equipment, implement plans, and develop preventive actions.
- Alertness, initiative, memory for verbal and written directions and details, analytical ability.
- Ability to plan and make decisions often without instruction or supervision.
- Proficient computer skills, internet research, and the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs or equivalent and email.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or LVT.
- Two years' Experience in veterinary diagnostic laboratory or clinical practice.
