As an Intern, for Heritage Research Group (HRG) you will support various projects, including those related to research and development and our operating companies. This role requires initiative, the ability to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines, and the capability to work effectively in different settings (lab, office, field).
Essential Functions
- Biological Projects:
- Assisting with bacterial and fungal degradation of plastics.
- Optimizing anaerobic digestion processes.
- Enhancing microbial nutrient removal from wastewater.
- Remediation Projects:
- Extracting hazardous contaminants from wastewater using foam fractionation.
- Analyzing and reporting results.
- Environmental Projects:
- Addressing industrial hygiene related to construction material handling.
- Measuring and mitigating volatile organic compounds from asphalt products.
- Additional Projects:
- Investigating microbial degradation of emerging contaminants in wastewater.
- - Harvesting and testing bacterial populations for remediation purposes.
- Preparing media, incubating bacteria, and collecting samples.
- - Performing DNA extraction for external lab analysis as needed.
- Doing research on new science/technologies and regulatory compliance such as the EPA.
Education Qualifications- Required High School or Equivalent College courses including relevant lab work and course work
Experience Qualifications- Required 1+ years Lab experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Completed Engineering (minimum Engineering 101) as well as other 100 level Statestics and Chemistry classes.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Experience with mass balance (preferred).
- Excel and other Microsoft business products (required).
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- May involve sitting or standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing tasks that require bending, crouching, kneeling, and walking.
- Requires working safely in environments with dust, noise, and asphalt fumes using proper personal protective equipment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with team members.

Intern pay is non-negotiable and is calculated based on current academic class standing $17/hour (Freshman) - $20/hour (Senior), etc.
