Summary Description The Grants Accountant II is responsible for daily financial grants management & grant accounting functions supporting the operations of the organization. Utilizing hands-on experience and an in-depth understanding of fund accounting principles, government regulations, and company practices, the Grant Accountant will perform complex grants management activities and financial analyses. The Grant Accountant will report to the Controller, Grants & Contracts and work closely with management team members and external funders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* In collaboration with other Grants & Contracts team members, ensures documentation and data are properly maintained, catalogued, and accurately reflected for internal and external audiences
* Maintains a full understanding of all contracts and grants fiscal reporting requirements
* Participates in meetings with management and funders related to contracts, invoicing, and budget discussions
* Prepares monthly, quarterly, and/ or annual cost reimbursement and other funding reports for a variety of grants and contracts
* Validates accuracy and compliance of expenditures to ensure billing in accordance with contracts and federal guidelines * Reconciles project general ledgers and audit transactions for discrepancies and required adjustments; works with programs and accounting to resolve any issues
* Prepares grant budgets and budget modifications in accordance with funder guidelines; coordinates gathering and validating historic and planned budget data from programs and accounting
* Maintains grants and contracts budget versus actual reports and provides management and programs with reports and schedules
* Supports management with maintenance of staff, operations, and overhead allocations schedules
* Supports with collection of aging grants and contracts receivables by preparing reports for management and communicating with funders
* Supports accounting department with coding information for payments against grants and contracts receivables
* Supports with grants and contracts-based audits by coordinating requests and ensuring auditor's inquiries are addressed
* Supports with review and audit of subcontractor invoices as back up or as needed and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required typically required.
* B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant field and at minimum 3 years of grant accounting/ management experience.
* If no degree, at least 5-10 years of successful hands-on grant accounting/ management experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles, federal regulations Title 2 CFR Part 200, and other related guidelines.
* Extensive work experience in accounting/finance, preferably in a non-profit related organization.
* Extensive years of work experience in grant-funded specific accounting.
* A demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and increasing responsibility in the recording, maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger account balances and the related internal controls
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook) and Sage Intacct.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze information.
