The law school's Lawyering Process Program, which instructs first-year students in foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills, is one of the nation's most respected and is currently ranked among the Top 20 legal writing programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Position Summary

The Sturm College of Law seeks to hire one or more dedicated and innovative individuals, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor of the Practice of Law, to teach in its Lawyering Process Program. The successful candidate will teach two sections of Lawyering Process. At their election, the colleague will have the ability to teach an additional upper-division elective course on a compensated overload basis.

The successful candidate would be expected to commence employment no later than August 1, 2025. The initial appointment would be for two, five, or seven years dependent on rank. The position is eligible for renewal and/or promotion pursuant to relevant University- and unit-level renewal and promotion standards.

Essential Functions

  • Engage in outstanding and innovative teaching, imparting relevant doctrinal knowledge and professional skills and cultivating an inclusive learning environment.
  • Teach two sections of Lawyering Process - a required, first-year, two-semester course that exposes students to the foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues in the Lawyering Process Program to adapt and incorporate innovative, inclusive, and effective teaching methods and to advance the impact, stature, and visibility of the Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods.
  • Outstanding teaching skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, and access in education.
Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree(s) from an accredited law school
  • Excellent legal research, analysis, reasoning, writing, and communication skills
  • At least two years of legal practice experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at an accredited law school
Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $135,000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
