Job Description

GPIhas an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer in either our Columbia, MD or Milford, DE office. We offer opportunities to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment on a variety of transportation projects for federal, state, local and private clients. Ideal candidates will hold an Engineer-In-Training certification, with aspirations of obtaining PE licensure.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing basic analysis and design of project elements
  • Preparing cohesive and organized structural calculations
  • Detailing and drafting of structural elements
  • Assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Developing task deliverables for review by a Senior Engineer
  • Performing tasks according to assigned schedule and budget
  • Working independentlyunder the guidance of a Senior Engineer
  • Provide direction for team members as needed
  • Participate in bridge inspections, perform load rating calculation and assist with report writing
Qualifications:
  • 0-5years of structural engineering design experience
  • B.S. in Structural Engineering degree is required, M.S. is preferred
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification preferred, with a desire to obtain PE licensure
  • Basic knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Basic knowledge of general-purpose structural analysis programs
  • Basic knowledge of computer-aided drafting programs
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic with desire to work in a collaborative environment

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
  • Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
