POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of the Transition Success Center (TSC) is responsible for managing the Transition Success Center and is a key member of the college's transition and student support initiatives. This position's primary role is to lead all aspects of the TSC including day to day operations, strategic planning, supervising staff, managing budgets and scholarships, fostering partnerships, and outreach/recruitment activities. This position leads the TSC in providing services and information to faculty and staff and most importantly to students as they transition from non-credit to credit level classes and onward to completion (degree, certificate, etc.). The Director ensures the TSC aligns and supports the mission and vision of the TSC and Highline College. Through the Transition Success Center, this position will work to explore innovative strategies and programming to help students navigate the United States community college as part of their higher education experience. This position works closely with the English Language Career and Academic Prep (ELCAP) department which houses our English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL), GED, and other pre-college courses. The Director of the TSC will integrate ELCAP students to current resources on and off campus. The Director of the TSC reports to the Associate Dean of ELCAP.

The Director of the TSC also collaborates extensively with the High School Engagement & Academic Success (HSEAS) team to facilitate the seamless transition of students nearing program completion. The Director of the TSC will support HSEAS team in providing training around navigation support and ensure students receive comprehensive academic and funding assistance. Additionally, the Director of the TSC will offer one-on-one advising to students and manage completion of funding applications, all aimed at supporting students in achieving their college goals and ensuring their overall success.

This position is an exempt, full-time position.

Hours of work include evening, weekend and travel.

Essential Tasks

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • This position reports directly to the Associate Dean of ELCAP;
  • Direct reports include a Transition Success Center (TSC) Program Navigator (Exempt Staff) and 2 student Peer Advisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

LEADERSHIP
  • Oversee the administration and coordination of transition programs, ensuring they meet institutional goals and student needs;
  • Track quantitative and qualitative data to help assess students transition from non-credit to credit level to completion;
  • Provide a quarterly TSC report to the Associate Dean of ELCAP;
  • Attend and participate in Instructional Leaders Group;
  • Actively contribute to the college's planning efforts to better serve students; transitioning from non-credit to credit level to completion;
  • Participate in campus-wide and community activities as appropriate.
SUPERVISION AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT
  • Hire, manage, and train staff, student employees, Navigator, faculty and interns to advise and assist students with admissions and funding applications, pathway planning and resource navigation;
  • Provide weekly trainings and one-on-one bi/weekly trainings for staff to provide guidance on campus resources, updates on campus deadlines, advising support, and build team camaraderie;
  • Provide quarterly department updates to Support Center, ELCAP and HSEAS departments;
  • Lead and provide leadership training for Support Center once a quarter;
  • Develop and build a resource of networks for students to use on and off campus;
  • Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively to maximize program impact;
  • Track student hours/projects, and prepare funding applications for S&A funding every year;
  • Create and provide up to date training materials and manual for TSC team.
PROJECT & PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
  • Create and refine policies and procedures related to student transitions, ensuring they align with institutional goals and best practices;
  • Advise students to plan academic pathways, and provide support and assist students towards financial options as they transition from non-credit to credit level classes;
  • Provide resources for students to understand the degree pathways and funding options;
  • Develop comprehensive handouts and presentations to effectively communicate degree pathways and funding options to ELCAP and HSEAS students and faculty, and community;
  • Provide and facilitate quarterly workshops for students, campus, and community. Provide training for Navigator;
  • Refer students effectively to faculty and staff and community resources as appropriate;
  • Oversee and develop IBEST programming to enhance student outreach and engagement. Collaborate with Workforce Education Services (WES) to efficiently process and disburse grant funding. Establish and refine processes for admitting students into IBEST classes and managing funding allocations. Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports to the Grant Manager. Maintain precise records of student meetings and conduct quarterly check-ins to monitor student progress. Assist with student admission, enrollment, and funding applications. Work closely with faculty each quarter to ensure accurate records of IBEST-approved classes. Train Program Navigator to assist IBEST students;
  • Oversee and manage the admissions and enrollment processes for the Ability To Benefit (ATB) grant program. Collaborate closely with the Financial Aid Office and Workforce Education Services (WES) to ensure adequate funding for students. Provide detailed information regarding eligibility requirements to both students and campus staff. Coordinate with the Placement and Testing Center Program Manager to obtain and review student test scores. Track student progress, providing necessary support for admissions, enrollment, and funding. Ensure students meet quarterly requirements and remain on track to complete their academic degrees. Manage a caseload of students, maintaining regular communication with the Financial Aid Director to confirm quarterly progress and manage funding allocations;
  • Collaborate and co-lead the quarterly Professional and Technical Information Sessions, provide outreach support, create flyers and handouts, provide admin support and market info session to community and campus.
CAMPUS & COMMUNITY OUTREACH
  • Collaborate and build relationships with departments and divisions on campus (ELCAP, pre-college and college level) to meet the goals and support the College's mission and strategic plans;
  • Develop new TSC website and maintain quarterly updates about resources/workshops/upcoming deadlines and funding applications;
  • Update and Maintain Bookings page for student appointments;
  • Attend and share information about transition and student support at department and divisions meetings;
  • Visit ELCAP and HSEAS classes to present about transitions opportunities;
  • Collaborate and work with Placement and Testing Center, Workforce Education Services, Financial Aid, ELCAP, Faculty, Advising Center, Admissions Department, Registration and Records Office, Student Leadership (CLS/ICC), Entry Advising, Benefits Hub, WISH/SHoRE program, Workforce Staff, and community organizations;
  • Foster partnerships with community partners in South King County areas;
  • Lead a team to implement and run the ELCAP Transitions Fair;
  • Develop, plan and share learning engagement strategies, resources and professional development around transition for faculty and staff on campus;
  • Gather, analyze and interpret data with assistance from various departments on campus to monitor students' transition progress.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Participate in relevant trainings, conferences, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Provide trainings around degree pathways, financial aid funding, and campus processes to campus and community partners.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to:
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing;
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite; Google suite, and Zoom; Effectively organize work priorities and meet timelines;
  • Work with diverse populations and participate in college initiatives to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion; Engage students, faculty, and staff in information relevant to college pathways, financial aid, resources; Provide individual and group advising to students of diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of:
  • Adult Basic Education classroom experiences;
  • Financial aid, HB 1079, workforce education and related areas;
  • Pre-College classroom experiences;
  • College classroom experiences.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree; AND
  • Two years advising, navigational support, and/or case manager experience; AND
  • Experience working with English language learners and non-credit students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of CTC Link and WA Community and Technical Colleges;
  • Ability speak languages other than English - Bilingual or Multilingual;
  • Experience with IBEST programs;
  • Classroom teaching experience or experience creating and leading workshops/seminars targeted for students;
  • Knowledge of and experience working with students of various immigration statuses.
