SUMMARY:

The Director of Academic Coaching oversees Academic Coaching services within the Weinstein Learning Center at the University of Richmond. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position creates, implements, and leads various academic skills services, peer mentoring services and programs, and innovative programs that support student success. This position will supervise an Academic Coaching team primarily consisting of peer educators. As part of the WLC, this role will partner with faculty, staff, and other university partners to ensure the team is serving the needs of the student population.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

STRATEGIC PLANNING, ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

• Oversees the overall leadership, strategic direction, and delivery of academic coaching programs to undergraduate and graduate students.
• Sets the strategic vision for the Academic Coaching program and leads staff in developing and implementing strategic priorities.
• Oversees the assessment and evaluation of Academic Coaching services and programs, and reports results to stakeholders including President, President's Cabinet, Board of Trustees, Executive VP and Provost, Executive Director of Weinstein Learning Center, institutional Effectiveness, faculty, staff, and students; prepares annual reports and other administrative reports that are utilized for planning and developing University initiatives and SACS Accreditation and edits a myriad of documents.
• Researches academic coaching trends and funding to facilitate the delivery of effective strategies and innovative programs and services for students and faculty, and provides comparative and benchmark information to place academic coaching achievements in context; and researches and publishes in relevant areas of student learning and mentoring.
• Designs and leads training in academic coaching practices, student success pedagogy, growth mindset and strengths-based approaches.

ACADEMIC COACHING SERVICES, PROGRAMS AND OPERATIONS

• Provides direct academic coaching services that assist students in understanding and learning ways to improve their cognitive skills, including crisis walk-in coverage, crisis intervention, and evaluation services when needed.
• Directs the daily operation of a peer academic coaching program including formulating policies and procedures, identifying, selecting and training peer coaches, developing online evaluation and reporting forms, and planning and implementing collaborative group activities.
• Oversees the continued monitoring and implementation of strategic, tactical, and operational plans for accomplishing online scheduling of coaching appointments in identified subjects and evaluation of data.
• Oversees creation of asynchronous content building and information available on the website regarding academic coaching initiatives and resources.

CONSULTATION, TRAINING AND COLLABORATION

• Serves as a principal representative of and spokesperson for Academic Coaching within the Weinstein Learning Center. Responds to faculty, staff, and administrator request in regards to academic coaching and academic skills building. Participates actively in collaborative initiatives to increase student retention and success; serves on relevant university committees to provide expertise on student needs and problems; consults with faculty, staff, students, and parents about student academic skills issues; prepares and provides training workshops to university groups (e.g., faculty, students, staff, etc.); and serves on Richmond Scholars and other scholarship committees.
• Collaborates with other university partners who request academic coaching support for their programs or student population.

BUDGET

• In consultation with the Weinstein Learning Center (WLC) Executive Director, administers, manages, and oversees multiple programs and departmental budgets and future budget proposals.
• Initiates and cultivates relationships with foundations and other external funding entities to secure funding to creatively support the development and implementation of viable student-centered programs.

SUPERVISION

• Directly supervises, hires, trains, mentors, and provides work direction and problem solving assistance for an experienced, talented, and dedicated student staff (10-20 student employees).
• Directly supervises the direction and function of the Academic Coaching component of the WLC. In consultation with the Weinstein Learning Center (WLC) Executive Director, supervises and mentors existing and future academic coaching staff.
• Promotes and facilitates professional development of Academic Coaching staff and encourages participation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in academic coaching, academic skills building, time management, stress management, leadership development, program assessment and evaluation, and team building and collaborative skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree in education, psychology, counseling, or in a related area, and five to seven years of higher education experience in academic coaching or in a related area at the Director or Associate Director level.

WORK HOURS:

• Full-time, exempt position
• Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; some evenings and weekends required for training and events

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 9 (Hiring Range $74,672.00 to $102,669.00 annually)
