Job Description:

As a Crash Diagrammer for NDOT Highway Safety Section, you will be responsible for making visual representations of crashes that occur on highways, roads, and various locations throughout the entire State of Nebraska. This position's duties also require writing narrative statements summarizing crash data for a given location.
The Crash Analysis Unit provides crash pattern analysis to law enforcement, engineers, researchers, and others to improve the safety of Nebraska's roadways and for informational purposes. A key part of these studies is providing accurate visual diagrams and written narratives of requested roadway locations.

JOB DUTIES:
- Primary duty consists of drawing visual representations of traffic crashes on roadways using MicroStation CADD software.
- Create spreadsheets from imported crash data queried from the OnBase system.
- Prepare crash studies using basic data compilation and computation procedures.
- On occasion prepare additional studies that include compiling summaries of crashes and calculating their average crash rates, as well as creating detailed narratives of traffic crashes for analyses.
- Use electronic document imaging system to retrieve, read, and print motor vehicle crash reports.
- Ensure accuracy of roadway characteristics at crash study locations using the PathWeb dialog system, Google Maps/Earth, maps, and map software, etc.
- Upload and extract crash study files to and from the OnBase and ProjectWise systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:Post-high school coursework/training in: statistics, mathematics, or quantitative analysis
OR experience in collecting and/or compiling statistics from varied sources using telephones, terminals, microfilm equipment, or surveys; computing solutions to statistical problems; or editing and/or summarizing information into worksheets, tables, and/or reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel software programs.
- Experience with MicroStation CADD software, manual drafting, or graphic design programs.
- Experience with the state highway system, including the NDOT reference post system.
- Experience with electronic document imaging systems.
- Experience with effective communication skills is required to perform the essential functions of the job.
Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to perform quality work with careful attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Must have the ability to read maps.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret crash reports.
- Ability to think critically, reconcile conflicting information, and ask questions when needed.
- Ability to write clear, accurate, and concise reports suitable for public presentation.
- Ability to work as a member of a team or individually.
- Skill and ability of objective mindset, customer service orientated, adaptable, and have a strong work ethic.
- Skill and ability for effective time management to maximize the coordination and completion of tasks and activities.
