The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a Communications Coordinator.
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for aiding in the planning, creating, and publishing of content for websites, social media, email, and print. This role will support and help coordinate departmental communications within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) by building awareness and understanding of programs and people to help achieve engagement, recruitment, and retention goals by communicating effectively with key audiences, including faculty and staff, current students, prospective students, and alumni.
Responsibilities include writing and editing articles and basic page content for websites, assisting with the creation and distribution of email newsletters, generating, editing, and scheduling social media posts, and light graphic design using templates. This role will also be asked to help guide the work of student workers deployed in the college's departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, create, and edit basic editorial, social media, and multimedia content.
- Assist with collecting, entering, and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts and tactics.
- Assist with communications materials and plans that support the college, its projects, programs, and departments.
- Assist with providing direction, assignments, and feedback to student workers deployed in departments.

Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, creative writing, or other relevant experience.
Required Qualifications: - Minimum one year of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism.
- Ability to write and edit content demonstrated through web pages, published stories, mass email, newsletters, social media, and/or communications plans.
- Demonstrated ability to customize content for specific audiences through writing, storytelling, or other marketing efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and work on several projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional attention to detail, including copy-editing and following a style guide.
- Experience using a website CMS like Drupal or WordPress.
Desired Qualifications: - Experience creating and scheduling social media posts using tools like Meta Business Suite, Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or other tools.
- Experience creating and distributing email newsletters.
- Experience contributing to and using a content calendar.
- Ability to provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to student employees as necessary.
- Proficiency with Canva, Adobe, or other graphic design tools.
- Experience with Drupal 9 and Layout Builder.
- Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) writing, including familiarity with Google Analytics.
- Experience running advertising on social media platforms and reporting results.
- Experience collecting and analyzing email metrics.
- Experience working in higher education, government, health care, or other large, complex organizations.
