Job Info

The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions at the Assistant or advanced Assistant level.

We are searching for economists with a potential for excellence in research and teaching. Each member of the department faculty is expected to contribute to the department's core curriculum. For these positions, we seek to hire colleagues who can contribute to our econometrics (position 1) and macroeconomics (position 2) sequences. All faculty also offer elective courses that are informed by their scholarship. The teaching load at Colby is 4.5 courses per year, typically achieved in the department through 3 distinct courses a year. We are looking for candidates who can work with us to engage and support students from diverse cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups in economics.

Colby is a prestigious liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and actively engaged in the classroom and independent research. Our 18 continuing department faculty have active research agendas generously supported by the College, including a pre-tenure sabbatical during the fourth year, significant start-up and continuing research funds, and department-funded student research and teaching assistants.

Our review of completed applications will begin on November 15, 2024 and continue until the positions are filled. We plan to conduct first-round interviews in mid-December and to schedule campus visits for finalists in January. To be considered for an interview your application dossier must include: (i) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby and outlines your research agenda; (ii) your curriculum vitae; (iii) three condential letters of recommendation; (iv) a representative sample of your research; (v) your graduate transcript; and (vi) a statement of teaching philosophy that demonstrates a commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching and evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations if available. Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. prior to September 1, 2025.
