Job Description:


Major Responsibilities:


  • Oversee two career communities including advising students in the career communities and planning programs for each community
  • Provide support for the Career Lab program
  • Implements the job shadowing program in collaboration with the Sr. Associate Director of Career Education/Advising.
  • Support curriculum and career initiatives in collaboration with key campus partners.
  • Support the delivery of the career advising process within the Career Connections Center and beyond.
  • Support the career development timeline with milestones for each year and connect them to the areas such as the Curriculum and Careers initiative, the Navigator, RLH curriculum, and Academic Advising.
  • Research and identify appropriate career readiness activities with employers, faculty, external partners, and alums for students.
  • Intentionally work on initiatives to expand opportunities for a diverse group of students, including but not limited to first-generation students, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, etc.
  • Work with campus partners such as Student Leadership and Programming and Residential Life and Housing to create and facilitate programming and communities focused on early career exploration.
  • Provide training, development, and resources for faculty to support career readiness with their engagement with students.
  • Collaborate and present career-related programming and job-search strategies workshops for undergraduate students across all majors.

Career Advising:


  • Engage in holistic career advising, drawing from: academic advising, career counseling, and student development theories; Clark University academic requirements, resources and national best practices.
  • Advise students on identifying appropriate academic and career options, assessing and exploring those options, and developing concrete academic and career goals.
  • Advises students on negotiating offers, overall ethical/professional conduct, resume/cover letter writing, informational interviewing, interview preparation, internship/job searching.
  • Responds to e-mail, phone, and in-person inquiries from current students.
  • Advise or refer them appropriately.
  • Maintains student files and records.

Planning and Management:


  • Leverage the Division of Student Success unit to increase the engagement of all students in the following areas: ISEA, Residential Life, Academic Advising Center, and FYSAs, through the training & development of elected and selected student leaders.
  • Research and stay informed on local, regional, and national hiring practices, employment trends, and other labor-related issues.
  • Maintains current and timely outreach records and communicates regularly with team members.
  • Contribute to designing, creating and maintaining print and online employer/partner resources.

Participate in the growth and development of the Center, Division, and Clark University


  • Support key initiatives and experiences within the Division of Student Success and the University, such as opening weekend, orientation, commencement, family weekend, traditional events, etc.
  • Serve as a responsible committee representative as requested.
  • Attend necessary meetings and inform staff regarding relevant information.
  • Promote efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and ensure that is consistent with the Division of Student Success mission and values.
  • Remain cognizant of the University's mission and identity, the constant promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the importance of student voices.
  • Communicate effectively with your supervisor concerning the pertinent unit and/or University matters.
  • Other duties as assigned that are within the best interest of the division and department.
  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in a University environment working directly with an undergraduate population in a career services related function.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Exceptional organizational and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to career services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, prioritize, and problem-solve within a fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff as well as members of the Clark community.
  • Ability to work with large and small groups of students.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to analyze and address students' educational, personal, and professional needs.
  • Familiarity with academic advising, career advising, and/or student development theories a plus.
  • Available to work some nights and weekends.
