Holyoke Community College is housed on a multi-million-dollar, 135-acre campus, equipped with state-of-the art technology in specialized learning facilities. The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) is seeking SI Leaders in the following areas:
  • Biology
  • Accounting
  • Culinary
  • English
  • Math
  • Public Health

Primary Activities

  • Attend class meetings of the selected course as needed, take notes, obtain syllabi, do homework and read all assigned materials including text(s) and supplemental readings.
  • Conduct at least three to five 50-minute study sessions per week throughout the term using strategies learned through Tutor Training, SI Workshop, and Leader Manual
  • Create and use SI session handouts approved by faculty
  • Regularly meet with the SI supervisor.
    1. Discuss observation of the SI sessions
    2. Discuss the creation and use of the SI session handouts
    3. Discuss the planning of SI sessions and use of a wide variety of the learning strategies
    4. Notify supervisor about problems or potential problems
Secondary Activities
  • Meet with other SI Leaders and supervisory staff at scheduled meetings
  • Other duties assigned by the Director
Maintenance Activities
  • SI Leaders will introduce themselves and the program to the virtual class and supply the class and faculty with their contact information.
  • Obtain a copy of the class roster from faculty after the "add/drop" period and maintain changes to it as the semester progresses (W's/AW's/Adds/Drops).
  • SI Leader must notify Faculty of any absence or tardiness in a timely fashion and follow-up on any classroom material/assignments for the day.
  • SI Leader will maintain contact with the Faculty and provide information regarding student's progress or contact faculty when needed regarding course material/assignments.
  • SI Leader will also verify if faculty will offer any extra credit or incentives for attendance to SI Sessions (before the start of the program/class introduction).
  • Work with the SI supervisor to select appropriate times and scheduling of SI sessions
  • Ensure that the End of Semester SI survey is completed and submitted to your supervisor
  • Collect attendance data via your CAPS Activity Log
  • Maintain professionalism with faculty and students at all times

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Part-Time, MCCC/Non-Benefited Position

Hourly Rate: $33.95Hours: up to 4-18 hours/week

- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa.
- Pre-Employment Background check, including Criminal History will be conducted for all positions.
