Eurofins is searching for a Business Unit Manager for the Sanger DNA Sequencing Laboratory in Louisville, KY.

Business Unit Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :


  • P&L responsibility for the DNA sequencing operations; quote and develop business plans for large accounts while maintaining profitability goals of Eurofins. Assumes budgetary costs responsibility for DNA sequencing operations
  • Oversees, directs, coordinates and prioritizes the daily activities of the DNA sequencing laboratory and the assigned staff
  • Improve operations efficiency for services. Streamline the operational processes and make good use of IT to achieve high efficiency. Support the development, implementation and optimal use of equipment and systems and ensure its efficient usage at all levels to improve productivity and profitability
  • Maintain and improve quality of DNA sequencing services, review trends and initiate root cause analysis if necessary and oversees implementation of recommended corrective actions, monitoring that changes yield expected results - reduce complaint rate of customers to benchmark level with other Eurofins entities
  • Comply and develop further the quality system under ISO9001/13485 and CLIA. Be an active part in creating and maintain work instructions for the DNA sequencing operations
  • Actively reach out to core labs and industrial accounts to develop outsourcing plans and negotiate terms and conditions to transfer business
  • Provide consulting services and product/process development for key customers and potential new business when requested by sales
  • Actively getting customer feedback and translating it into solutions, improvements and new requirements to develop and extend DNA sequencing services together with sales and marketing
  • Hire, motivate, develop and retain excellent laboratory staff and make sure the essential training schedule is followed. Conduct performance review of managers and help them set-up and achieve performance goals
  • Set up customer centric Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) goals to monitor costs, quality, TAT and other pertinent metrics to aid the progress and success of the operations. Follow up as appropriate and become hands on if required to ensure achievement of goals
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and trade shows, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations when applicable
The ideal candidate would possess :
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills and proven success overseeing laboratory operations
  • Scientific creativity, independent thought and decision making ability
  • Ability to travel five to ten (5%- 10%) of the time
  • Ability to work on overnight schedule during the training/onboarding period, and as and when the need arises
Basic Minimum Qualifications :
  • Higher education degree in a related field is required, preferably in Chemistry or Biology, but not necessary; Master's in Business Administration is highly desirable
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience, managing laboratory operations, preferably involving Sanger DNA Sequencing
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
