Who We Are:

The Structural Dynamics and Product Assurance team are dedicated to ensuring the utmost reliability and durability of critical systems and components. Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide thorough and precise project support to engineering staff, specializing in test setup, execution, and meticulous data collection/reduction.
  • Primarily, the technician will support our renowned Helmet Test Program while engaging with various other testing protocols within the Environmental Test Laboratory.
  • With the growth of SwRI's Helmet Test Program, we are seeking a key technical support technician to bolster our efforts.
  • Involvement in diverse testing activities, including but not limited to, helmet testing, crash testing, pendulum impact testing, security fence testing, 30-foot drop testing, and vibration/shock testing.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Take a proactive role, eventually leading setup of test equipment and helmets for our accredited helmet testing program. This involves a blend of mechanical assembly, data acquisition, and thorough documentation.
  • Handle mechanical assembly tasks with precision and efficiency, interpreting and executing from both verbal and written instructions.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to seek guidance from experienced personnel are essential.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, data logging equipment, and standard MS software programs including Word and Excel.
  • Operate SwRI vehicles, forklifts, and manage overhead cranes efficiently and safely.
  • Record handwritten laboratory notes that document the testing conducted.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. An associates degree in mechanical engineering or technology preferred.
  • 1-5 years: Proficiency in interpreting engineering schematics and written procedures for complex systems including mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic.
  • 1-5 years: Demonstrated hands-on experience with construction, mechanical, and/or electrical assembly tasks.
  • 0-5 years: Welding or construction experience.
  • 1-5 years: Ability to notate and document.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required

Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
