Job Description:


The dynamic undergraduate admissions team at Clark University seeks a smart, motivated, and equity-focused individual to lead recruitment efforts centering diversity and inclusion. The Associate Director of Admissions for Access and Partnerships will have a demonstrated interest and experience in improving college access for historically underrepresented populations, especially first generation, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students. The successful candidate will perform counselor-of-the-day duties on a regular basis, which includes presenting information sessions to large crowds, as well as participate in a range of on- and off-campus admissions and recruitment activities representing Clark University's undergraduate educational experience to prospective students, their parents, counselors, and alumni. The qualified candidate will analyze and review undergraduate admissions applications holistically and consistent with institutional policies and priorities. All member of the undergraduate admissions team will use quantitative data, in addition to qualitative feedback, to craft and improve their approach to territory management, student recruitment, and admissions programming.


Clark seeks a candidate with strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities, and a goal oriented-mindset. Previous experience in higher education working in admissions or a closely related area in K12 or the non-profit sector is highly recommended and as in experience with projects focused on diversity, access and inclusion.


This position requires occasional weekend and evening work, in addition to approximately 6 weeks of travel per year.

Major Responsibilities:


  • Lead the development and management of virtual and on-campus events that support the recruitment, enrollment, and success of students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds
  • Build thoughtful programming educating students about the college process and Clark through virtual engagement opportunities and/or group visits to campus
  • Liaise with Clark University offices, staff, and faculty that currently support student success
  • Establish, maintain, and grow effective partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and secondary schools that support the college search and college access for underrepresented students; some current partnerships include Maine Seacoast Mission and the Davis Maine Scholarship, the IDEA network of schools, and Upward Bound
  • Oversee the coordination of day or overnight programs design specifically for historically underrepresented students; this may including managing group or individual travel, on-campus event logistics, and budget management
  • Supervise one admissions counselor whose project purview is focused on access and inclusion
  • Select, train, supervise, and mentor a team of student ambassadors engaged in outreach efforts to students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds
  • Collaborate with admissions colleagues to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion across all programming and outreach materials and support peers ensure all staff are engaged in access and inclusion work as a part of their roles
  • Help identify strong on-campus and off-campus professional development opportunities for the student and professional admissions staff around diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Participate in professional development related to issues of access in college admissions

Travel and Recruitment:


  • Create travel strategy for assigned geographic region and execute on travel logistics
  • Travel to college fairs, high school visits, alumni events and other off campus recruitment activities as needed

First-Year Fall Application Review:


  • Read, evaluate, rate, and make recommendations to the Vice President for Admissions and Financial Assistance and the Admissions Committee on first-year applicants
  • Determine admissibility of student applicants on the basis of institutional policy and independent analysis of applicant potential for success

Counselor of the Day Duty:


  • Serve as a host and resource to all visiting students and families who visit Clark University on the dates of assigned Counselor of the Day duty coverage
  • Conduct group information sessions
  • Provide phone coverage on scheduled coverage days

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience
  • Willingness to travel
  • Ability to work on occasional weekend days (approximately 6-8 a year)
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including addressing large groups
  • Strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships with multiple constituencies both on and off campus - includes ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; keen attention to detail
  • Strong computing skills
  • Willingness and desire to learn new skills to enhance team performance
  • Experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus and a team-oriented outlook
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in group settings
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs
