Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students (DOS) in the College, the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the College Academic and Student Services Office (CASSO) leads the office and a team of assistant deans, directors, and assistant directors tasked with developing and supporting DOS wide systems and infrastructure, as well as managing college wide work on academic planning resources and technology, including records and enrollment management, the course catalog and policies, and developing data dashboards and proactive interventions and alerts in concert with the academic advisers, academic departments, and the Registrar's Office. The Office and its members will serve as the College DOS Office's primary SDS liaison and support work on HLC accreditation led by the offices of the Dean of Students and Dean of the College.

The new Director will set strategic vision and priorities for the office focused on supporting office infrastructure and priorities, enhancing student success, improving the student experience, and improving college wide efforts for targeted student support and persistence. Moreover, the Associate Dean of Students and Director is a part of the Dean of Students senior leadership team and will work with the Dean of Students and Deputy Dean of Students and Chief of Staff to guide office operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-level service, operational support, training and development across multiple units/departments of The College.
  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, training, development, and supervision of staff.
  • Partners with faculty, academics, and directors of undergraduate studies to design and implement resources to support students; provides subsequent necessary training.
  • Responsible for strategic planning, direction of the office, and leads the DOS academic records team.
  • Develops, implements, and manages college wide systems and processes to support student success in collaboration with office members, DOS and College staff, faculty and academics, and campus partners.
  • Designs, implements, manages, and trains partners at the college and campus wide to use dashboards, tools, and college systems designed to improve student experience.
  • Provides consistent and high-level service to students and their families.
  • Helps partner offices within the DOS monitor and track student performance, progress to degree, and academic standing; suggests data-driven improvements to systems and programs to better support students, advisers, and work across college.
  • serves as compliance/policy officer.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant federal and state regulations related to student affairs and higher education.
  • Serves on committees to create and revise policies and programs as needed.
  • Manages course catalog and related policies in collaboration with the Dean of Students and Dean of The College.
  • Serves on Dean of Students leadership team.
  • Plans activities for the academic year as well as manages other summer projects with leadership. Works closely with major campus partners, including Chicago Booth, Harris School, Career Advancement, Bursar, Financial Aid, ARD and others. Collaborate with Booth regarding college registration and grading and other Booth programs.
  • Recommends variations in policies regarding academic standings. Review, approve and process as necessary a variety of student petitions including professional school petitions.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
  • Master's degree, advanced graduate terminal degree, or doctoral degree strongly preferred.

Experience:
  • Creating tools and data dashboards, and systems to support them.
  • Developing and implementing short- and long-term strategic plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations impacting student affairs and compliance in higher education.
  • Knowledge of assessment best practices, accreditation practices, and higher education trends in student and academic affairs and services.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Use complex databases and other record keeping.
  • Creating tools and data dashboards, and systems to support them.
