The Assistant Vice President, Perioperations oversees the strategic, operational and quality aspects and have accountability for the direct reports of the perioperative and procedural operations at Wellstar MCG Health. This role requires a leader who is highly effective in multi-site management as it has direct oversight over all of periperative services. Departments include: Main OR, PACU, Pre-Admission Testing Department, Pre/Post-Op Department, Ambulatory Surgical Center, GI/Bronch Lab, PACU, Surgical Scheduling, Endo, Sterile Processing Department (SPD).

This role facilitates the integration and teamwork of all Perioperative and Procedural Departments for optimal care of patients. Works with physicians to adopt and incorporate quality and efficiency initiatives and understand economic considerations. Responsible for development of strategic and tactical plans to maximize the effectiveness of Perioperative and Procedural Services at the facilities. This includes budget planning and management (capital and operational) strategic planning, regulatory and compliance management, scheduling optimization, staffing, performance improvement, patient experience, team member engagement and clinical standardization initiatives. The AVP identifies cost effective systems needed to support the business of the department, considering business trends, resource availability, and changes in customers.

This role will have a matrixed responsibility to the Perioperations at all Wellstar Hospitals where operative and procedural care is performed. Working as an administrative dyad with the VP of Surgery and Chief Surgical Officer, this role will collaboratively execute on strategies, quality oversight, care standardization and value analysis initiatives across the service line. This leader will collaborate in the development and prioritization of surgical capital plans, surgery center strategies and will partner with all stakeholders to integrate patient experiences, operational effectiveness, and system outcomes within the hospital and procedural operations of the service line. This leader will work collaboratively with the service line administrative leadership team to execute on goals and strategies.

This leader will be a key leader within the Wellstar MCG Health leadership team and in partnership with nursing to ensure efficient, high quality, and high patient experience across the entire hospital continuum of care. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors and the community at large.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Masters in Nursing or Bachelors in Nursing with a Masters in a related field is requidred.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
  • GA RN (Single State) or RN Multi-state Compact is required.

Required Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a hospital/healthcare environment with exposure to matric operating structure and experience working with system and service line leadership is required.
  • Includes management of multiple departments, including perioperative and/or procedural services, preferably in a large or multi-hospital system, required.
  • Experience with adult and pediatric services is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with an academic medical center.

Required Minimum Skills:
  • Highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills; regulatory, financial analysis and business planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge and command of the principles of financial analysis, planning, operations, and human resources.
  • Strong metrics-driven performance improvement background is important, as is the ability to coach leaders to higher levels of accountability and execution.
  • The ability to use data to create accountability structures to drive success.
  • The AVP must be able to accumulate and analyze appropriate data and formulate actionable plans with staff to achieve goals.
  • This individual should have the confidence to represent Wellstar in formal and informal settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and apply data and other pertinent information to develop short and long-term goals.
  • Proactively searches for and recommends opportunities to enhance services and revenue.
