Position Title:Assistant Teaching Professor of Biology (Introductory Biology)

Position Summary:The Department of Biology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 3-year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor instructional position that will begin August 10, 2025. This full-time teaching faculty appointment carries a service component commensurate with rank, and comes with the possibility of ongoing renewals and a framework for promotion.We seek an individual with expertise in and enthusiasm for teaching introductory biology. The successful applicant will have the expertise to teach in both semesters of the introductory biology series (molecules, cells and development in the fall and organisms, ecology and evolution in the spring) in collaboration with existing teaching faculty. The successful applicant should also possess an interest in collaborating on the laboratory component of the introductory biology course. Additional teaching expectations may include non-majors courses in the applicant's area of expertise that contribute to the general education requirements, known as the College (COLL) Curriculum and pedagogy and best practices for learning assistants/peer mentors. There is no expectation of research scholarship associated with this position. However, the successful applicant is expected to remain current in biology education (pedagogy), keep curricula current with the latest discoveries in biology, and actively participate in revising and improving the introductory biology curriculum. Support for these activities may be accessed from various sources including the Arts & Sciences Teaching Faculty Grants Fund. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load.
Required Qualifications:Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025) and have prior teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous teaching experience at the introductory level is preferred, as is a demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable.
