Position Summary:The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor to serve as the Music Education Coordinator and teach undergraduate music education courses beginning August 1, 2025. Higher rank will be considered for appropriately qualified candidates. The annual contract is for 9.5 months with a competitive salary and 3-2 teaching load.
The duties in this role include:
- Teach Music and Music Education courses equivalent to 20 credit hour workload per year.
- Be available to mentor students outside of class (during office hours).
- Advise Music Education Students and help with practicum placements.
- Become involved in student organizations.
- Stay current in the music education field.
- Publish according to department creative work/professional development guidelines.
- Participate in service to the department, including but not limited to: searches, student group advising, admissions days and outreach, curricular oversight and implementation.
- Participate in college-wide service, including required meetings and events and major service roles.
Basic qualifications are required at the time of application:
- Successful applicants are expected to have completed their Ph.D. in Music Education by the time of hiring. Advanced ABD candidates will be considered.
- Applicants are expected to have minimum 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in K-12 schools (public or private).
- Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, mentoring of students, and active scholarship.
Preferred qualifications (not required qualifications for the position):
- Applicants with a record of or interest in program building and recruiting are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and communities is highly desirable.
