Be a Tar Heel!:The Department of History at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the history of the modern Russian empire, the Soviet Union, and/or post-Soviet Eurasia. The standard teaching load is 2/2. Responsibilities include the teaching of one survey course on Russian/Soviet history and courses related to your fields of expertise. We welcome applications from candidates whose work aligns with our departmental mission of historical research, teaching, and public service as described on our website (https://history.unc.edu/about-us/) and complements our existing strengths. Ideally, the candidate would enhance UNC-Chapel Hill's long-standing tradition in Russian/Soviet studies and actively contribute to the mission of the university's Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in history or a related field by July 1, 2025.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of History is one of the largest academic departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department is committed to the purposes of a research university, to the teaching of history at the undergraduate level as a core discipline in a liberal arts education, and to the training of graduate students.
Position Summary:Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Modern Russia/USSR history. Faculty member will be responsible for teaching a 2:2 load while continuing their own research, participating in departmental service, and mentoring undergraduate/graduate students.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Applicants must have Ph.D. in History or a related field in hand by July 1, 2025.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
