Acute/Subacute Care Medical Surgical Clinical/Simulation Laboratory Instructors The individual appointment to an adjunct nursing faculty position will provide quality learning experiences for Holyoke Community College Associate in Science in Nursing and Practical Nursing students on a semester to semester basis. Follows the policies and regulations of the governing institutions, Holyoke Community College, Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and the Accreditation Commission of Nursing Education standards for the ASN and PN programs. Under the direction of the Dean of Health, Education, Culinary Arts and Human Services and Director of Nursing, works collaboratively and collegially with department chairs, faculty and staff to provide instruction in nursing clinical practice, and simulation laboratory settings. Provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop clinical reasoning to make sound judgments, perform safe psychomotor skills, and demonstrate competency in the end-of-program student learning outcomes. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the students is one of educator, evaluator, and facilitator of student-centered learning and safe nursing practice. Fosters a culture of respect, understanding, and collaboration by promoting a learning environment of inclusion, belonging and caring.
Participate in College-wide, Department of Nursing and Clinical Practice Learning Environment orientations, working closely with a department mentor in the clinical onboarding processes. Performs instructional-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the Holyoke Community College, Department of Nursing and Practice Learning Environment. Meet and maintain faculty requirements upon hire and annually. To include, but not limited to, MA RN license in good standing; clearance of CORI/SORI check; drug screening; and fingerprinting; maintains health insurance; meets MA DPH Health requirements; completes a physical exam on hire; remains fit-for-duty; demonstrates evidence of professional development/scholarship, CPR certification; recommendation to carry liability insurance. Maintain clinical expertise in the area of specialization and nursing education in evidence-based practices through ongoing professional development and fieldwork. Participate as a team member to distribute and review the course syllabus,sim lab manual and/or clinical guidelines. The adjunct nursing faculty shall forward course materials to the DON no later than the end of the first (1st ) week of classes in each semester. Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including course attendance, assessment of student performance in the clinical/sim lab evaluation tool, and reporting of plans for success, warnings or grades. Facilitate active learning methods and instructional strategies for students designed to assist the learner in meeting the student learning outcomes of the course while promoting critical thinking and sound clinical judgment initiatives. Assign, supervise, and plan practice experiences, and evaluation of up to ten (10) students in clinical/sim lab learning environments based on student learning outcomes. Work effectively as a team member with the overall department and clinical practice environment, demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, communication, collaboration with the administration, other faculty and healthcare members to meet department and student needs. Complete a clinical practice collaborative review at the beginning and end of each semester. Instruct in various learning environments such as face to face on campus, in community practice areas, and simulation, remote briefing/debriefing and evaluations and virtual learning environments. Model professional behaviors for student learners including and enhance nursing student success. Promote working relationships with practice learning environments to enhance student learning experiences. Assure students a safe learning environment and provide safe nursing care for all individuals or groups of individuals. Follow created simulation laboratory learning experiences, to include high quality simulation, for student demonstration and evaluation of competent nursing skills based on student learning outcomes. Be available to promote student success, incorporate retention strategies, and assist a group of diverse students in achieving learning goals. Attend all scheduled clinical teaching experiences and/or simulation laboratory sessions and assigned curriculum meetings. Adjunct faculty follow the MCCC DCE contract. If it is necessary for the adjunct faculty member to miss a clinical/simulation/lab, the proper procedure is to notify the Department Secretary, Course Coordinator, and the assigned practice learning environment or the supervisor's designee. Participate in the systemic evaluation of the program through data collection and analysis for informed decision making. Maintain confidentiality in college and student matters. Follow the current HCC College Catalog; HCC Student Handbook, Nursing Student Handbook, and Practice Learning Environment policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned and needed for program and student learning.REQUIRED:
- BORN 244 CMR 6.00 Hold a current unencumbered Massachusetts Registered Nurse license;
- Possess a Master's degree in Nursing or a related graduated degree; or a Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with the following: Minimum of five years full-time Registered Nurse experience within the last eight years (and) one of the following: i: Be matriculated in a graduate nursing program within one year of appointment with an expected graduation date within five years of the date of matriculation; orii: Obtain a current Nurse Education certification by a Board recognized certifying organization within three years of appointment;
- Ongoing demonstration of evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction;
- Acute-care medical surgical nursing experience;
- Ability to demonstrate teaching skills in the clinical and/or simulation lab area including the use of interactive and varied pedagogical strategies;
- Confident and comfortable with technology-based instruction including online course work;
- Commitment to support underrepresented students in nursing;
- Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff and students.
