Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some weekends & extended hours
Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant III maintains accurate financial records. Provides accounting and bookkeeping support. Assists University staff in understanding industry standards, current laws, and university policy as it relates to the financial affairs of the University. Provides guidance, trains, and/or may train entry-level Accounting Assistants.
Additional Department Summary: The Accounting Assistant III supervises the Cash Control/Accounts Receivable department for the Supply Stores. Oversees daily cash handling and the paperwork/documents related to the cash flow of funds for sales and change for the Supply Stores. Creates proper audit trails as daily funds are counted, verified, and deposited into the bank, or received from the bank. Supervises the Accounting Assistant-Accounts Receivable who maintains the computerized accounting system Accounts Receivable customer files, verifies the daily Accounts Receivable sales transactions, and sends the daily Accounts Receivable transactions electronically to the appropriate departments on Campus. Supervises the Cashier Supervisor, 4 full-time Sales Associates, 5-10 student cashiers and 1-10 temporary cashiers during peak times.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR bachelor's degree.
Skills and Knowledge: Basic computer skills. Ability to use a 10-key calculator. Good communications skills, both written and oral. Familiar with Windows, Excel and Word. Must be able to multi-task.
Preferred Qualifications: Accounting degree and supervisory experience.
